‘SAND FLEA’ THE JUMPING ROBOT

Sand Flea robot rides like traditional swiveled wagons on the rough landscape and has the ability to plunge 9 m or 30 ft in the air to skip the hurdles. Sand Flea uses a gyro equalization to stay balanced while aired, to obtain a stark sight from the onboard camera, and to assure a safe landing. Sand Flea has been invented for the Rapid Equipping Force (REF) of US Army. With the help of Sand Flea, the militants will be able to scout the war base through all types of hurdles.

hopping-robotSand Flea consists a small platform on its soffit to brace itself up onto its rear wheels and a bouncing piston situated on the tail measures the size of the obstacle and accordingly can launch the robot up to 9 meters in the air to skip the obstacle. The wheels of the robot are specially designed which buffers the impact of landing. It is mechanized by suppressed carbon dioxide and the chamber is quite efficient for 25 hops before the requirement of impletion. The hop and berth posture of the robot are automatically supervised by an onboard stability system.

sand_flea-2In comparison with other locomotive projects of Boston Dynamics, sooner or later Sand Flea will also be in use in the real life. But for instance, there is no word from Boston Dynamics related to the launching of Sand Flea nor have they revealed a certain price for the same.
